DPR launches first bone marrow conservation unit

“It’s verily a historic event. We’re launching the first ever bone marrow conservation unit in Donbass. The technology allows to preserve the marrow left over after surgery,” Dolgoshapka said.

“It can be further used in full or partial bone graft. I’m proud of this benchmark and our doctors and scientists who meet the best world standards”.

The main advantage of bone marrow transplant (osteoplasty) before replacement is biological compatiibility with the patient.

Marrow can be donated both by patients and other people. This technology provides for restoring any bone in a human body. The procedure is divided into several stages. Biological materials undergo treatment and sterilisation and then are placed in a deepfreeze compartment where they can be stored up to 18 months.

Doilgoshapko visited Trauma Centre young patients who had already had the benefit of the new technology.

The Donetsk Trauma Centre osteoplasty costs are several times lower than abroad, the minister said.*jk
