DPR militiaman killed in Sakhanka rescue attempt

Donetsk, May 7 – DAN. A DPR militiaman was killed and his colleague was wounded as they were trying to help civilians wounded in a Ukrainian attack on the village of Sakhanka in the south of the Donetsk Republic, the DPR Militia reported on Thursday.

Earlier reports said that five civilians including two children were wounded when Ukrainian forces shelled Sakhanka, a village in the DPR’s southern Novoazovskiy district.

“As our defenders came to help evacuate the wounded, the enemy fired another recoilless gun round killing one militiaman and wounding another,” a DPR militia representative said.

Servicemen of the Ukrainian army’s 10th Brigade commanded by Vasily Zubanich purposefully fired on the civilians who were getting a World War II monument in order and reroofting the local recreation centre, he added.

A Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle crossed the contact line just before the Ukrainian strike. It was promptly shot down by DPR air defence units, the DPR militia said.*jk
