DPR medics warn of new influenza types to emerge this season

Donetsk, Sep 30 – DAN. DPR anti-epidemic authority has warned of new types of influenza viruses that will predominante this season.

According to the top sanitary doctor Miroslava Romanchenko, “type A viruses H1N1 and H3N2 and type B viruses of Victoria and Yamagata lineages will be circulating during this season. These types were not present in the DPR territory earlier, thus no appropriate vaccination took place, we expect an epidemic, ” she said.

Influenza A and B viruses cause severe respiratory infections in humans. Influenza B viruses split into 2 distinct lineages in the early 1980s, commonly named the Victoria and Yamagata lineages.*ot
