Pushilin posthumously awards journalists killed in Donbass in the line of duty

Donetsk, Dec 16 – DAN. DPR Head Denis Pushilin has posthumously awarded Russian journalists killed in Donbass in the line of duty with Cross of St. George IV class.

The awards were handed over to the colleagues of the journalists who lost their lives covering the war in Donbass: special correspondent of the VGTRK (All‑Russia State Television and Radio) Anton Voloshin; correspondent of the Vesti News program Igor Kornelyuk; cameraman of the First Channel Anatoliy Klyan; DPR mass media journalist and DPR People’s Militia service member Vsevolod Petrovsky.

Pushilin has also awarded VGTRK cameraman Viktor Denisov with the DPR Head’s Certificate of Honour for covering events together with Voloshin as civilians were being evacuated from the Metallist township.

The solemn event took place on the Remembrance Day of Journalists Killed in the Line of Duty.

The day was established by the Union of Journalists of Russia (RUJ) in 1991, following the deaths of journalist Viktor Nogin and cameraman Gennadi Kurennoy in the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in September that year.

Another Russian journalist Andrey Stenin was awarded posthumously with Cross of St. George IV class in early 2019. He was killed in August 2014. *ot
