No progress on establishing new disengagement zones reported after Minsk talks

Donetsk, Mar 11 – DAN. Ukraine has not suggested any acceptable options on new disengagement areas at the todays meeting of the security subgroup in Minsk, said DPR representative in the group Alexey Nikonorov.

“We presented our proposals at the previous meeting, with indications of coordinates and borders of the zones and with arguments concerning proposals of both sides. Unfortunately we received no compromise proposals from Ukraine. We are ready to compromise but not by way of unilateral concessions that will make our positions more vulnerable, as Ukraine proposes.”

The framework agreement on disengagement of forces in Donbass was signed in late September 2016. The objective was to disengage the warring sides to avoid the risk of clashes and shelling. The document set three pilot security areas: Petrovskoye in the DPR and Stanitsa Luganskaya and Zolotoye in the Lugansk People’s Republic. The disengagement was finalized at all the three areas by the late 2019.

The Normandy Four summit has set a goal of disengaging forces in three new areas. The talks to define coordinates of the security areas are ongoing. *ot
