New disengagement zones under discussion in Minsk – DPR Foreign Ministry

Donetsk, Jan 16 – DAN. The parties at the Minsk talks are discussing nine possible zones for the next disengagement of forces and hardware in Donbass, the Donetsk People’s Republic representative to the Contact Group talks, DPR Foreign Minister Natalia Nikonorova said on Tuesday.

“Ukraine has at last tabled its proposals concerning the new zones, and the negotiators could compare their locations and begin working on them,” Nikonorova said. “As of now, nine possible locations are under consideration, the DPR, the Lugansk People’s Republic and Ukraine suggested three each; out of the nine, three will be chosen and approved.”

However, the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine has not yet published the progress status of the schedule of works to dismantle the fortifications and other military installations in the first three pilot disengagement areas, she said. “There’s also the urgent need to finalise and initial an addendum to the Framework Agreement,  which would provide for dealing with the overlooked important aspects of the process during the next disengagement.”*jk
