Hurricane Eta Lashes Nicaragua’s Coast As Forecasters Warn Of ‘Catastrophic’ Flooding

Eta — which made landfall in Nicaragua more than a week ago, killing dozens and causing extensive flooding in Central America — has already brought rainfall and flooding to South Florida. More rain was expected as it nears its latest landfall.

The storm is part of an unprecedented hurricane season. Forecasters announced that Subtropical Storm Theta had formed in the northeast Atlantic Monday night, becoming the 29th named storm of the season, making 2020 the most active season on record.
