No progress in Kiev’s pardoning former detainees, DPR says

0
Donetsk, Nov 10 – DAN. Kiev did not provide the information at the humanitarian subgroup videoconference on whether it had met its commitment to drop criminal prosecution against former detainees, Donetsk Republic representative in the subgroup, DPR ombudswoman Darya Morozova said on Tuesday.

“The parties discussed the issue of dropping charges against the persons who were moved to the DPR during the prisoner exchanges in 2019 and 2020,” Morozova said. “Regrettably, no progress has been made. Ukraine has not provided the information to prove that they’ve been working on this track.”

Of all the persons moved to the DPR during the 2019-2020 prisoner swaps, Ukraine only dropped charges against one. Сriminal prosecution against the others actually continues, she said.

According to Morozova, the DPR has fulfilled all its obligations. Further development of the situation directly depends on how Ukraine will act. “Kiev has to meet its commitments to complete the previous exchanges before we can begin to discuss and agree the new ones,” the DPR ombudswoman said.

Ukraine and the Donbass Republics last exchanged prisoners on April 16, 2020. Donetsk handed over nine people to Kiev and got ten. The DPR dropped charges against all the persons handed over to Ukraine.*jk
